After reading a post on Mike Reiss’ blog about Coach Bill Belichick’s hands-on tendencies with his players, we thought it might be fun to keep track of him during a training camp practice.

Hence, a few notes regarding the coach’s itinerary, taken on the morning of Monday, August 3.

9:49 a.m. – Like most coaches, Bill wears blue shorts and shirts. He sets himself apart by twirling his whistle during calisthenics as he talks to someone on the far side of the second field (the one farthest from the bleachers).

10:15 a.m. – During work on the running game (linebackers vs. tackles and tight ends), he gives pointers to two defenders (linebackers Adalius Thomas and Tully Banta-Cain). After another play a few seconds later, he takes tight end Alex Smith aside, presumably to give the offensive side of the equation.

10:22 a.m. – As the kickoff team practices, Bill discusses the aforementioned drill with linebackers coach Matt Patricia.

10:38 a.m. – Before another round of kickoffs, Bill has a one-on-one conversation with Laurence Maroney. Maroney returns the next two kicks with varying success (one return, one muffed catch).

10:47 a.m. – Another one-on-one meet, this time with linebacker Paris Lenon.

11:00 a.m. – Bill steps into the huddle before the field goal attempt. It’s good!

A note here: it’s always fun to watch Belichick speak, because he uses his hands to show where the player should be, where the other players should be, and in the end, how important it all is. Yet another reason to attend training camp if you can.
