NEW YORK – November 14, 2010 – In a battle of two of the top teams in the AFC, Tom Brady and the New England Patriots (6-2) travel to Pittsburgh to take on Ben Roethlisberger and the Steelers (6-2) at Heinz Field on “Sunday Night Football.” Both teams are currently tied for first place in their respective divisions and have won five of the last nine Super Bowls played.
Calling Patriots-Steelers will be six-time Emmy Award-winner Al Michaels (play-by-play), who is in his 25th season as the voice of the NFL’s premier primetime package; 11-time Emmy Award-winner Cris Collinsworth, who last year, his first in the SNF booth, won the Emmy for outstanding event analyst; and sideline reporter Andrea Kremer about whom TV Guide said is “one of TV’s best sports correspondents.”
Coverage begins with “Football Night in America” at 7 p.m. ET Sunday with Bob Costas, who won the outstanding studio host Emmy last year, hosting live from inside the stadium. Dan Patrick will co-host “Football Night” from NBC’s 30 Rockefeller Plaza studios joined by Super Bowl-winning head coach and Emmy-nominated Tony Dungy, two-time Super Bowl winner Rodney Harrison, and Sports Illustrated’s Peter King. Alex Flanagan will report from the New Meadowlands Stadium on the Cowboys-Giants game.
Football Night” (7:30-8:15 pm) is averaging 8.1 million viewers through its first nine weeks, its most ever for that time frame and up nine percent vs. 2009’s 7.4 million viewers.
COSTAS INTERVIEWS BRADY: “Football Night in America” host Bob Costas sat down with Patriots QB Tom Brady for an interview that will air on Sunday’s “Football Night” show.
GREEN WEEK: “Football Night in America” will hit the “green light switch” this Sunday to kick off NBC Universal’s annual “Green Week,” part of the company’s ongoing environmental initiative, “Green is Universal.” A montage NBCU green programming highlights will usher in the Week, where over 40 television and digital platforms across the company will feature environmentally-themed programming.
COLLINSWORTH ON THE MATCHUP: “What a matchup. You end up with the two teams of the decade – Pittsburgh and New England – and five Super Bowls between them. It should be great fun to watch.”
HARRISON ON MATCHUP: “If the Patriots thought they played a physical game against the Cleveland Browns, wait until they go up to Pittsburgh and have to play against the Steelers. This is the most physical team in the National Football League. The Patriots pride themselves on playing smart and being physical. They’re not playing smart and they’re not being physical.”
DUNGY ON MATCHUP: “This is all about how New England bounces back. They really got embarrassed in Cleveland. Peyton Hillis and that offensive line in Cleveland dominated the game.”
HARRISON ON THE PATRIOTS DEFENSE: “This is still a young, immature team. When you look at the Patriots, the front seven is usually the strength of this team. But the front seven got handled up front against the Cleveland Browns. To allow a team to have over 200 yards rushing the ball won’t sit well with Bill Belichick.”
ON STEELERS OFFENSE:
Harrison: “Since Ben Roethlisberger is back, they don’t want to run the ball. They’re pass happy.”
Dungy: “Run Rashard Mendenhall. Give him a chance to do his thing.”
ON PATRIOTS OFFENSE:
Dungy: “It’s still about getting that chemistry with Tom Brady. (Brandon) Tate is still a young receiver and (Deion) Branch has got to get going and fill those shoes of Randy Moss. Wes Welker has that chemistry, and they are always going to get the ball to him, but they have to get some deep shots to some of these other guys.”
Harrison: “Brady needs to do a better job. He had some opportunities (against Cleveland) but wasn’t very accurate.”
